OLATHE, KS - A local Heatherstone Cub Scout Den visited the Olathe Mayor's office of Mike Copeland yesterday to learn about local government and citizenship. "I really had a great time," said Den 6 Cub Scout Corbin Kinsch. "We're working on our Citizenship badge and this was a great experience." he added.
Every year, Mayor Mike Copeland opens up his office for this scouting event and it provides Scouts of all ages with the information they need about their local government. The Open House also includes visits with Olathe City Council member, Marge Vogt, to discuss their roles and Olathe's form of government.
A special video about community involvement and presentations by Olathe Police Captain Shawn Reynolds and Olathe Fire Chief George Bentley on safety and good citizenship were also shown.
"It’s a terrific program and the best way for Scouts to learn a great deal of information in a short amount of time," said Pack 3250 Den Leader Shane Kinsch.
The program ran from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. in the City Council Chamber.
